“Professors, guided by a deep conviction of the worth and dignity of the advancement of knowledge, recognize the special responsibilities placed upon them.”  This statement is part of the “Statement of Professional Ethics” found in the Kaskaskia College Federation of Teachers IFT/AFT Contract.  One of these responsibilities, placed upon faculty at Kaskaskia College, is to ensure that students in their classes are given the opportunity to obtain the knowledge set forth in the course learning objectives.   It becomes challenging to meet these learning objectives when class cancellations occur.

As an institution, Kaskaskia College recognizes that faculty will face personal situations that will prevent them from holding class:  sickness, emergencies, or other unforeseen events.  The Kaskaskia College Federation of Teachers IFT/AFT Contract, details acceptable uses for personal and sick days, as set forth in Sections 8.1 and 8.5.    However, pursuant to ICCB and IBHE regulations, Kaskaskia College is held accountable as an institution of higher learning and must be able to affirm that all learning outcomes have been met within the given semester.  In order to meet this accountability, established procedures will be followed when class cancellations occur.
